Nicholas Fife
Dr. Nicholas Fife is from Fort Mill, South Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in 2011. In 2013 Nick earned a master’s degree from Louisiana State University, where he was the graduate teaching assistant for the horn studio. In 2020 Dr. Fife finished his DMA at the University of Texas at Austin. His professional performing career began while attending the University of South Carolina, performing with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra and the South Carolina Philharmonic. He has also performed with the Rock Hill Symphony Orchestra, Long Bay Symphony Orchestra, Aiken Symphony Orchestra, Laredo Philharmonic, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Sinfonietta, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Tigerland Brass Quintet, Beaufort Symphony, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Freedom Brass Band, the Texas All Star Horn Professor Horn Choir and other ensembles across the United States and Canada. In December of 2013 Dr. Fife earned the second horn position with the Beloit Janesville Symphony and performed with the orchestra until May 2015.
In September of 2016 Nick was hired as an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M International University. He taught horn and chamber music there until May of 2018. Dr. Fife has attended many music festivals over his career, including Eastern Music Festival, the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, the Ohio Light Opera, Piccolo Spoleto Festival Orchestra, the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, the Atlantic Brass Quintet Summer Seminar, and other festivals across the continent. In June of 2018 the Atlantic Brass Quintet premiered one of Dr. Fife’s compositions at the Mostly Modern Festival. Since that performance Nick has received over a half dozen commissions. In March of 2019 Nick founded the South Carolina Brass Band. This band consists of college brass teachers, band directors, freelancers, local orchestral musicians, and community members. Currently Dr. Fife is the CEO and Principal Tenor Horn in SCBB.
Dr. Fife is formerly the Adjunct Instructor of Horn at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and the Associate Lecturer of Brass Studies at Coker University. Lastly, in August 2023 Dr. Fife was hired as the Adjunct Professor of Horn at Winthrop University.
